Here in Key Largo or at any dive resort / destination, you will be limited on which dives / dives sites you can participate in. In many cases, the lowest certified diver controls where the boat goes and where you can dive.
This course can be taken after completing the PADI Open Water Diver certification. It’s titled PADI Advanced Open Water Diver because it advances your diving knowledge & skills.
You’ll plan your learning path with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. 5 specialty open water adventure dives are required for completion, chosen from a list of available options. The first two (Deep Diver and Navigation) are required, the other three are chosen from the following list after consultation with our training staff. You must complete the following e-learning topics online prior to check-in at Key Largo Dive Center. The actual dive specialty will depend upon logistic and conditions. The on-line training for the above five adventure dive skills must be completed before checking in at Key Largo Dive Center to begin your in-water training.
During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
Beyond using basic scuba equipment, you’ll need a compass and dive knife or dive tool. You’ll also use specialized gear depending on the Adventure Dives you choose. Your PADI Instructor will explain the equipment that you need and may suggest additional gear, such as dive light for night diving or lift bag for search and recovery diving.

Open Water Diver / Junior Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification)
These items are required in order to begin your in-water training. We have a variety of these items to choose from at the Key Largo Dive Center retail store, and students receive a 10% discount on dive equipment/supplies.

Notice About PADI Certification Card Issuance Policy:
PADI recently updated its Certification Card policy. New certifications are issued using a digital e-card, viewable by downloading and using the PADI app. Plastic certification cards are available at an additional cost.
